Kurt Cobain formed Nirvana alongside of Krist Novoselic in 1987. He was the band’s songwriter, vocalist and guitarist. Following the release of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ from the ‘Nevermind’ album in 1991, Nirvana became over night rock stars.
‘Nevermind’ brought alternative rock into mainstream. It is representative of a generation and its culture. Through this record, Cobain became the spokesperson of Generation X. He captures feelings and emotions through his lyrics; and presents them through his poetically ferocious rasp.
Kurt Cobain died at the age of 27—a death that music fans still contemplate 20 years later. The photograph pictured captures Cobain’s provocative side that is representative of himself, Nirvana and Generation X.

ABOUT JESSE FROHMAN
While earning a degree in economics at the University of Michigan, Jesse Frohman picked up a camera and never put it down. When he returned home to New York, he had no formal training or experience, but he did have a portfolio of platinum prints, which caught the interest of legendary photographer Irving Penn, who hired Jesse to manage his studio.
It was an incomparable apprenticeship. To the techniques and aesthetics he leaned from Penn, Jesse added his own sensibilities of strength, dignity and quiet energy, all of which are evident in his pictures.
Jesse has photographed countless celebrities and still lifes. He recently released his book KURT COBAIN: The Last Session, which features over a hundred photographs from Kurt and Nirvana's last photoshoot in New York City.
